How to Take Care of Your Nails | Quarantine Tips

By Alexa - April 18, 2020

I feel quite lucky at this point that I'm not actually one of those girls who has regular beauty treatments and services done! I like the idea of DIY and doing it myself, and would rather spend monthly 'allowance' on makeup and fashion items.

I love the odd massage and treatment, but when it comes to nails, I've always loved buying my own products. Now more than ever, is the time to try out new routines at home so I've listed below my go-to products for perfect nails:

First up, most importantly, is non-toxic nail polish. I won't go into the science and data behind this, but we all know these products are not natural. Nail polishes have been suggested to cause fertility issues amongst other health issues. As someone who regularly paints her nails, this alarmed me, and I looked into alternatives.

I also don't like the look of fake nails or even press on nails on mine, so I like to simply paint them. I then found several smaller brands with whole ranges of natural, non-toxic polishes. These are Benecos and Provida.

I bought these online and as you can see, they are mainly made up of natural ingredients and both DO NOT contain at least 5 of the main toxic extracts other brands contain. They have a wide range of shades so I picked up five of Benecos' shades, priced at around £6 each. The Provida base coat was a little pricier at around £9 but both feel the same as normal polishes and actually smell the same.

The brush is easier to use and covers almost my entire nail so one swipe and you're good to go! These are all available online so you can order them now and test them out during a quarantine pamper night!

In the UK, Holland & Barrett do a great Pacifica range too. Prior to picking my colour, I of course file my nails which in a week grow very long?! I'll lightly go over the tips with this Boots emery board. Then after removing the previous colour, I let my nails relax for a few hours at least and apply some life-saving Cutex nail oil all over. This adds in much needed moisture and smoothness to my nails, but you can use any brand or type of oil on your nails.

What are your fave products?

xoxo
